Chapter 757
Sir Clark chuckled lightly, "Ah, the naivety of youth. You say that now, but one day, you might just regret it."NôvelDrama.Org content.
"Who can predict the future? Let's just focus on the present," I replied, my voice tinged with a hint of melancholy. "Alright then. If that's what you want, you can take him home when he returns," Sir Clark agreed readily.
I couldn't help but smile. "Thank you, Mr. Clark."
"We're simply making a fair exchange," Sir Clark reminded me.
I laughed softly, "An exchange, you say?"
My words seemed to deepen the color in Sir Clark's eyes, but as someone who had seen it all, he quickly smiled. "My dear, just hand over what you have, and feel free to ask for anything in return."
He was being generous, but what I wanted was something he couldn't provide.
Yet, I still voiced my impossible wish, "What if I want my parents to come back to life?"
Even though it was a hope beyond realization, something he couldn't grant, I had to remind him of the debt he owed my parents.
Sir Clark's expression stiffened, "Ms. Hudson, let's keep it realistic. Ask for something tangible, like money, shares, or anything else." "Do you think I'm in need of money?" I retorted sarcastically.
"Not in need, perhaps, but isn't more always better?" That was typical magnate logic.
I looked down, my voice a blend of desolation and sorrow, "But no amount of money can give me the warmth I seek."
With that, Sir Clark understood my stance; I wouldn't give him what he wanted.
"Since you're not interested in
money and only want a person, let's
use a person as the exchange for what you have. How does that
sound?" Sir Clark knew exactly how to push my buttons.
He mentioned Phipps just because I had brought him up, ready to use him as leverage just as he would anyone else.
Ernest had told me about Phipps' real identity, so even this impostor, Sir Clark, wouldn't dare touch him. His current stance was merely to intimidate me into surrendering what I had.
"Didn't Mr. Clark just promise to keep him safe for me? How come he's now become your bargaining chip?" I mocked.
Sir Clark played with a ball in his hand, "My dear, let's not play word games. Hand over what you have, and we can all live peacefully."
I understood his underlying threat and asked with a smile, "Or else, Mr. Clark, you plan to start a massacre or go on a rampage?"
Sir Clark laughed again, "Young lady,
you know very well whose favor m doing this for. Since you're aware I'm a man of violence, don't make me reunite you with your parents the hard way."
His threat was direct. I pressed my lips together, "Mr. Clark, if you truly believed I was that easy to deal with, we wouldn't be wasting our breath here." Despite Herschel's betrayal and my severed ties with him, he still had my back.
Sir Clark was cautious because of him, and also because of the Wagner brothers, Conrad and Dustin.
Their love for me might have been twisted, but they wouldn't allow anyone to harm me.
Facing the Wagner's influence, even Sir Clark had to tread carefully.
Unsurprised by my declaration, Sir Clark simply stared at me for a moment before dismissing me, "Show the lady out."
As the door opened and Sir Clark's bodyguard appeared, I walked out, only to find Dustin waiting for me at the doorway. He was there on purpose.
