Chapter 82
“My assistant just notified me that they’ve arrived. How about you? Have you arrived at Fansville yet? I know you’re a busy man, Scott; I’m sorry to have inconvenienced you with this.”
Scott watched as Naomi’s silhouette disappeared past a bend in the hallway and finally replied, “I’m
here.”
‘Really? Did this clash with anything in your schedule? I wouldn’t want you to push away something important just for this.”
“It’s fine, Uncle Chandler. This is a really meaningful event that I was looking forward to seeing too.”
“Is that so? I’m surprised, Scott; you never used to be interested in things like this. I’m sure your participation will be greatly appreciated. Are you at the door already? Why don’t I send my assistant out to escort you?”
“No need, Uncle Chandler. I found my way inside already.”
“That’s great, Scott.”
With that, Scott hung up the phone. By this time, Naomi and the rest of the crowd disappeared. Scott stared at the hallway where they were standing just a minute ago, pondering. Everything felt the
same,
but at the same time, everything changed.
The person in charge led Naomi and the rest to a private with a gigantic round table. A man was already waiting for them. He stood up with a grin when they entered.
The person in charge introduced the man to Quentin, “This is Chandler.”
Quentin immediately reached out to shake Chandler’s hand. “It’s such a pleasure to meet you, Master Chandler. We’ve all heard of your name, and it’s such an honor to finally meet you in person.
“Don’t flatter me, Quentin. Come in, everyone, and sit.”
Chandler was a man in his seventies, but he was still very much alert and active, always greeting people with a kind smile.
Naomi sat down at the table along with the rest of the wood carvers. Just as she was about to take her seat, Chandler’s voice rang out, “This must be the only female wood carver in your museum, right?”
Chandler did not hear of Naomi for a long time, so he recognized her almost immediately.
Quentin smiled. “Yes, Master Chandler. She’s my friend’s daughter and picked up wood carving from her father at a young age. She’s exceptionally talented, even more so than most of us.”
With that, Quentin beckoned Naomi to approach them. “Come say hi, Naomi.” Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
Naomi went over to his side and greeted Chandler, “Nice to meet you, Master Chandler.”
Chandler grinned at her. “You look like a quiet girl, Naomi. I wouldn’t have pegged you as someone
who likes handiwork like this.”
“She’s a quiet girl, but she’s always the one with the best ideas. She’s taken part in almost all of the projects in our museum.”
“Splendid! I’ve always been perturbed by the lack of young talent in our field, but now, I’m relieved to see that a young girl like Naomi is willing to carry on the art of wood carving. I want her to be a part of this project too!”
Naomi froze. She did not expect to be chosen to be a part of the project all of a sudden.
Quentin and the rest, however, did not appear surprised. They all smiled and nodded in agreement. Quentin said, “You’ve got a great eye, Master Chandler. She’s one of our best!”
“Thank you, Quentin, but I’ve always had an eye for talent. I have a good feeling about Naomi. She’s going to achieve great things in her future.”
“I agree with you, Master Chandler!”
Everyone smiled at this. Naomi, who always got shy at social events like this, chuckled along with the others rather sheepishly. She was like a child who was brought by her parents to a party with the
other adults.
Chandler invited everyone to take their seats, while specifically leaving the seat next to him to Naomi. Naomi did not think she was in a place to accept such great honor and thus wanted to
decline, but all of a sudden, someone knocked on the door.
