Mayra rested her legs on Helen’s lap. “Why are there so many scars on your leg? This one looks like a burn. You poor thing.”
With her hair covering her face, Mayra kept looking ahead while remaining silent. After the medicine was applied, she went to bed to rest.
Mayra’s injured ankle was severely swollen. Helen massaged it with anti- inflammatory ointment, filling the room with the scent.
“The power won’t be back until tomorrow! Can you stay here with me?” Mayra’s
eyes were red and swollen from the crying as she looked at Helen.
Helen hesitated. “Well… I’m afraid that won’t be appropriate.”
Mayra said, “I’m scared.”
Helen had no choice but to accompany Mayra until she fell asleep.
It was 2:00 am.
When Mayra was startled awake by thunder, she found that Helen was no longer there. Fortunately, she still had a flashlight with her.
She reached for the phone under her pillow and saw that Gordon texted her two hours ago. Without much thought, she called him.
The call was answered in less than 30 seconds.
“You haven’t slept yet?”
Initially, Mayra didn’t feel aggrieved. But upon hearing Gordon’s voice, she couldn’t hold back her tears again. “Gordon, I’m scared.”
Gordon turned on his bedside lamp and sat up. “Why are you crying?”
Mayra replied, “Gordon, there’s a power outage at my house.”
He asked, “Where’s your brother?”
“He’s gone to the Barlow Estate. I’m alone now.”
He inquired, “Did you check the fuse box? Maybe it tripped?” RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
Mayra said. “The maid said the wires are burned out… I wish I could see your now. Gordon, can you keep the call going?”
“Of course. I won’t hang up the call. I’ll be with you.”
Fortunately, Mayra’s phone was fully charged, allowing for a long call.
She got back under the blanket, clasped her hands under her face, and watched the call duration tick by. Two minutes went by.
Mayra called out to him, “Gordon, are you still there?”
Gordon replied, “Yes, I am.”
“Gordon, you’re always so good to me! Whenever I’m bullied, you always show up in time to stand up for me.”
He questioned, “Stand up for you?”
“Gordon, I really like you a lot…”
Gordon heard her voice growing fainter and thought she was sleep–talking. But only Mayra knew how she got bullied and oppressed by Yvette in return for targeting Isabel. At various parties, Yvette mocked her as a kept mistress and degraded her with insults.
In the face of everyone’s ridicule and contempt, Gordon was like her guardian angel. He was always there to take her away from those distressing scenes.
At first, Gordon was just someone she used to attract Anderson’s attention and make him jealous.
Even when she ran away from home, she always went to Gordon. The
password to his villa was her birthday. Even the food he liked was based on her preferences. Gordon had specially prepared a room for her too. It was filled with various designer bags.

He had never been bothered about her background. He didn’t mind whether she had been Anderson’s kept mistress.
Mayra also knew that Gordon’s love for her was unconditional and tender.
She wondered if the outcome would have been different if she had left Anderson earlier in her past life.
