Chapter 506
"Ha! Evelyn's a nobody." Vivian jeered. "She thinks she can seduce you just because she's pretty. She should look at herself before deciding if she's worthy of being your wife." "That's enough!" Ethan roared. He pulled my arm so that I stood behind him. "Vivian, I'm warning you. Stop talking to Evelyn like that!"
Vivian didn't seem to care, though. She simply stared at me with those cold, hateful eyes of hers and said, "Anyway, she gave birth to a son. So, her net worth must've risen quite a bit. Although, it's a shame that she can't raise the child. Who do you think will be in charge of raising him in the end?"
"W-What are you going to do?" My eyes widened in fear as I hugged Zachary even more tightly.
"Oh?" Vivian narrowed her eyes at me, her smile turning even more egregious and foreboding. "Well, of course, I'm taking him back to the Grayson residence."
She continued, "You two have no right to raise him. He's the heir of the Grayson family. You should let me take care of him as his aunt."
"You wish!" I spat. I felt like tearing that smile from her face. "Zachary's Ethan and my child. No one can take him away from us!"
"Really?" Vivian said with a half-smile. "As far as I know, that child hasn't been registered yet. A bastard like him can never be the heir of the Grayson family!" "Nonsense! Zach's not a bastard child!" I was so mad that I started tearing up. "Ethan and I are lawfully wedded. Zach is Ethan's biological child!"
Vivian sneered, her lower lip protruding as she pouted indifferently. "Do you really think things will work out just because you get pregnant and get married to Ethan? Evelyn, you're forever a peasant in the eyes of the Grayson family. You're not worthy of being Ethan's wife!"
She continued, "Your son is just a tool you use to climb up the social ladder. He's an illegitimate child!"
"That's bullshit!" Ethan snapped, unable to hold back his anger anymore. In just a few steps, he strode over to Vivian and grabbed her by the neck. "Slander my wife and child again, and I'll make you regret it terribly!"
I was stunned to see him so livid and was afraid that he'd do something if he became out of control.
"Ethan, forget it." I grabbed his arm to stop him. "Don't listen to her. Zachary's here with us. You don't want to scare him, right?"
Ethan finally let go of Vivian, but the wrath in his eyes didn't subside. He looked at her as if he wanted to beat her into a pulp.
"Vivian, you had better listen to me," Ethan warned, his tone cold. "Zachary's my son. He's the only son I have, and he's the sole heir of the Grayson family. I can give him a place to call home even without the Grayson family's support. No one can take him away from us!" Vivian coughed profusely when she was finally free from Ethan's grasp. A moment later, she looked up at him with a smile that sent a shiver down my spine.
"Ethan, don't be too full of yourself," she said. "Do you really think youz can protect that bastard all on your own? Just you wait! Sooner or later, I'll take him away with me with my own two hands!"

That said, she stormed off without a second glance. The only thing that was left of her was her cold laughter, which made me shiver in fear and anger.
I trembled so badly that I almost fell to the ground. Vivian's words were like a razor-sharp knife that stabbed my heart.noveldrama
How could she say Zachary's an illegitimate child? Ethan and I were husband and wife. It was no secret.
On second thought, our marriage was rushed, so it may seem like a deal or a trade to outsiders. People probably saw Zachary as a bargaining chip between me and Ethan.
I couldn't stop my tears from falling at the thought.
"Evelyn, don't listen to her," said Ethan, pulling me into his arms.
Gently, he wiped away my tears and comforted me, "Zach's the fruit of our love. No one can take him away from us. I swear that you two are the only people I want and need in my life."
I leaned against his chest and
bawled my eyes out. Through my
sobs, I said, "But Ethan, you heard, what Vivian said. Your family doesn't
approve of our marriage. Zach's an illegitimate child in their eyes..
I paused to catch my breath. "How are we supposed to protect him in the future? What if they forcefully take him away from us one day? What can I do?"
My heart broke at the possibility that
I might one day lose my child. It was
just like what I had experienced in my previous life. Back then, my child
didn't even get the chance to
witness the beauty of the world before it was gone for good.
Now that I had Zachary with me, I would never let him go! I'd protect him from harm even if it meant losing my life in the process. He was like an angel, bringing light and hope into my life.
Ethan seemed to know what I was thinking because he hugged me tight. Leaning down, he slowly and gently spoke into my ear, "Don't be scared. I'm here. I won't let anyone hurt you or Zach."
He added, "As for Zach's identity, we'll register his birth right away. Once everything's done, no one can slander you two anymore."
Ethan's words were like a comfy blanket, giving me warmth and reassurance.
What do you think?
