Chapter 507
My tears turned into laughter after hearing what Ethan said.
After wiping away my tears, I gazed deeply into his eyes and said, "Honey, I believe you. We will take good care of our little family."
He gave me the softest of smiles and kissed me on my forehead. "Don't worry. I'll do everything I can to give you two a better future."
With that, he bent over to pick Zachary up in his arms, his eyes full of affection as he did so. "Zach, Daddy and Mommy will protect you forever. We won't let anyone hurt you."
After that, Ethan and I went through the procedures for my discharge, and we left the hospital together.
Sitting in the car, I looked out the window at the familiar scenery and took a deep breath.
From this day onward, I was no longer alone. I had people I loved dearly, and I found a reason to keep fighting and pushing forward.
No matter the challenges that would arise, I wouldn't be afraid of them as long as the three of us were together.
Soon, we drove into our neighborhood and stopped right in front of our house. I slowly and carefully got out of the car with Zach in my arms.
Looking up at the mansion that loomed before me, a sense of security welled up in me for no apparent reason.
"Welcome home, darling," said Ethan. He had one hand on the luggage and the other on my shoulder. His face shone with joy and exultation. A soft smile hung on my lips as I kissed him on the lips.
"I'm back, honey," I said, throwing the doors open. My heart melted at the sight after I opened the door. It warmed my heart.
The living room was meticulously decorated with flowers and balloons, and on one of the walls was a poster that read, "Welcome home, Zach!"
"This is..." I glanced around, stunned.
An awkward smile crept onto Ethan's face. Sheepishly, he said, "A surprise. I prepared it myself. We need to get things ready to celebrate Zach's first month here with us. I'm going to make the celebration a grand one."
Tears pricked my eyes, and I sniffed, thinking that my tears were going to fall. It never crossed my mind that someone as cold and grave as Ethan would have a warm and affectionate side like this.
"Honey, you won't think it's too cliché, right?" Ethan asked, bashful as he scratched his head.
I shook my head profusely and ran into his open arms. "Of course not! I'm so touched!"
"I'm glad you like it," he said, flicking my nose affectionately. "I'll give you all sorts of surprises every day after this."
We looked into each other's eyes and rested our foreheads against each other, immersed in the blissful moment.
I suddenly had the thought that no matter what happened in the future or what other people said about us Ethan and I would not lose sight of our future as a family as long as we remembered what it was to love each other.
There was a crib, bags of diapers, baby formula, and lots of toys... Besides that, I could see plenty of clothes, shoes, and some other necessities.
Ethan was careful in providing the best items for Zach. He had this serious expression on his face, which was amusing and expected of a first-time father.
Just then, our joyful moment was
interrupted by the ringing of the doorbell, The ringing was short and sounded urgent. Even Zachary started moving in my arms, coused
from his sleep.
I quickly coaxed him so that he'd go back to sleep. Then, I turned to Ethan, wondering who would come to us all of a sudden.noveldrama
Ethan's expression turned stony at
my questioning gaze. He put a finger
to his lips, signaling me to stay quiet. Then, he quietly went over to the door and looked out the eyehole.
"Who is it?" I asked nervously after a while.
Ethan's scowl deepened as he answered the question. "It's... my mom. Vivian's with her."
My breath caught in my throat, and I almost yelped in astonishment.
Why were they here? Were they after Zachary?
My heart started beating wildly in my chest as I fretted, recalling how Vivian had wanted to take him away from me not too long ago.
My arms subconsciously tightened around Zachary as tears threatened to fall.
"What should we do? Should we pretend like we're not around?" I asked, my voice trembling.
Ethan considered it for a while before shaking his head and turning down the idea. "No. Instead of hiding, we should just face them head-on."
What do you think?
