After leaving the café, Skylar returned to the hospital. Just as she was about to push open the door to the ward, she caught sight of Austin and Natalie inside through the half–open door. Taking a step back, she decided not to interrupt them.
Austin had just finished slicing an apple. “Give it a try and see if it’s good,” he said, offering Natalie a piece.
Natalie shook her head, still feeling a bit dizzy and lacking an appetite. “I can’t eat right now, Mr. Powell. You have it.”
Austin didn’t push her. He understood that Natalie was struggling with the lingering effects of her concussion. He had experienced the discomfort of a concussion himself when he had accidentally fallen while filming, so he knew how unpleasant it could be.
“Mr. Powell, you’ve still got scenes to film. Don’t waste your time sitting here with me. I’ll be fine. I just need to rest,” Natalie said, feeling a bit awkward.
For the past couple of days, her mind had been in turmoil. She was still unsure how to respond to Austin’s feelings.
It was precisely because she felt so confused that she recognized her own feelings for him. Noticing her evasive demeanor, Austin understood what she was thinking. He said, “I don’t have any scenes today. I’ll stay here, and you can sleep.”
Natalie genuinely felt unwell, and even talking made her feel like she might faint. Sometimes, she even felt nauseous.
She had never had such minor accidents before, and now a car accident had left her with a concussion. She truly felt unlucky.
With a soft hum of acknowledgment, she let him stay. She wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but she vaguely heard the voices of her parents speaking to Austin. She caught snippets of laughter and heard her parents say something about “taking care of her” before they left.
Since her head was still spinning, she couldn’t clearly make out what they said. Eventually, she drifted back to sleep, feeling as if it were all a dream.
When she finally woke up again, she realized it was dark outside. But Austin was still there. Just as she was about to speak, someone knocked on the door.

Austin went to answer it, and Natalie seized the opportunity to sit up.
Natalie’s expression changed upon seeing who had walked in. Austin also looked surprised, but he quickly regained his composure and greeted the newcomer. “Mr. Hughes.”
Jeremy’s expression darkened the moment he laid eyes on Austin, but he nodded in
acknowledgment.
He stepped forward and turned directly to Natalie. “I heard from your parents that you were in a car accident. How are you feeling now?”
He understood better than anyone that Natalie was afraid of pain and had a timid nature. Given that she had a concussion from the car accident, she must be feeling frightened.
Natalie shook her head as she glanced at Austin before replying, “I feel better now. It’s not as bad as before. The doctors have taken care of my injuries, so there’s nothing to worry about. Thank you for coming to see me.” © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Jeremy looked deeply at Natalie, relieved to hear her say that. “I’m glad to hear that. If anything comes up, don’t hesitate to call me.”
After saying that, Jeremy didn’t linger and walked out. Natalie understood that his demeanor signaled he had made up his mind about something.
“I’m stepping out for a bit. If you get bored, feel free to play on your phone,” Austin said to Natalie.
Natalie nodded obediently. “Okay.”
Outside the ward, Jeremy didn’t leave immediately. He waited in the hallway and looked over when Austin stepped out of the ward.
Austin walked a few steps toward Jeremy. “Are you serious about his?” Jeremy asked directly.
“Yeah, I want her. She’s the only one for me.” Austin had only made two serious decisions in his life–to pursue acting and to be with Natalie.
Hearing the determination in Austin’s calm voice made Jeemy’s throat ache. Long ago, he had made a similar decision.
