Chapter 201
Chapter 201
Chad could never forget that scene, when his sister kicked the bucket. His mum was so distraught she
passed out, and his dad could barely stand. He was leaning against the wall, watching his sister's face
being covered with a white cloth.
She looked like she was sleeping, as if she'd wake up any second, leap into his arms and call him
affectionately. His sister, Jade, was gone, and his mum had lost the will to live. She started
sleepwalking, became mute, and went a bit mad.
The doctor said if they had gotten her to the hospital that night, she might have had a chance, but it
was too late now. His mum was racked with guilt, thinking she shouldn't have just taken the kid to a
small clinic the night before. In a daze, she wandered to the beach.
"My mum was about to lose it, she went to the beach and step by step walked into the sea. She loved
Jade so much, couldn't accept that Jade was gone. And that's when she showed up." Chad said.
In the sea.
His mum, about to lose hope after losing her daughter, was found by his dad. His dad dived into the
sea to save her, encouraging her to keep living. His mum didn't fight him.
That day, Chad found a kid on the beach. She was pale, looked a lot like his sister.
"Mom, dad. Look, that kid." Chad said.
His dad saw Molly lying on the beach. He left his wife by his son's side, and walked over to see if the
kid was still alive.
The kid was cold all over, her arm was swollen and red, and they didn't know how long she'd been
abandoned on the beach.
His dad touched her nose and found a faint breath. This kid, she was a real fighter.
"We just lost my sister, and then found a kid on the beach. My mom insisted it was my sister. She kept
calling Molly, and my mom was like a madwoman, saying it was my sister's spirit in her. She was
saved, and my dad took her to the hospital. While she was being treated, my parents were preparing
my real sister's funeral. Once everything was ready, she was discharged. She didn't remember
anything, only that her name was Molly, and that she had a brother looking for her. We didn't know
what had happened to her. We went to the police, but found no one had reported her missing. In the
end, my dad wanted to send her to an orphanage. He had just lost his daughter, was drowning in grief
and his wife sleepwalking. He didn't have the energy to care for this sudden extra kid." Chad said.
But during that time, Molly always hugged Chad crying and calling him brother, always clinging to him,
saying she was scared. His mother cared for her as if she was her own daughter, and in the end, he
didn't have the heart to send her to an orphanage.
"Molly, do you want to be Jade?" He asked.
Molly didn't understand, but the adults all knew what he meant.
They hoped Molly could live in Jade's place.
"So, you're the brother she was looking for." Chad said.
Andre didn't figure out the tangled web. No wonder Jade never disappeared, but he could never find
his sister. So, that was what happened. When the real Jade had left, his sister had appeared. Also, the
Cedillo family's search was so high-profile, how could they not have reported it to the police? Andre
had questions.
From that year, the Byrne family hid Molly for a year. Jade hadn't seen anyone she used to know for
over two years, even her grandparents. The next time they saw each other, everyone said Jade had
changed. Her skin was even more delicate, more beautiful.
The people of the Byrne family just smiled and said nothing. With Jade's company, Coleen gradually
regained her senses. She often hugged the sleeping Jade and called her, "Jade, mum misses you.
Don't leave mum."
Family life seemed to have returned to how it was before. Only the three of them knew, that the real
child was gone.
Chad was also afraid of his sister leaving him again; the feeling of never being able to see her again
was too painful. What Chad didn't expect was, the child they saved back then, was actually the Cedillo
family's younger daughter. The brother she often mentioned in her childhood, turned out to be the now
business tycoon Andre!
For an ordinary family, they, the Byrne family, could still struggle a bit, and suppress with power. But,
the one looking for her turned out to be the all-powerful Cedillo family. Chad laughed at himself, of
course his sister was someone else's.
"Why did Molly go missing?" Chad asked.
That afternoon, the two of them talked for a long time in the car, revisiting what happened that year.
After Andre fell into a coma, Molly was taken away. When he woke up, his sister was gone. Only
people from the Marshal family were by his side.
But Molly fell into the sea. The sea pressure was too high, bottomless, causing Molly's memory to
become skewed, losing a part of it. She came across the Byrne family who had just lost their daughter,
took Jade's name and lived on.
Because she was young and shocked, she didn't know she wasn't a Byrne.
Andre searched for fifteen years. That day, he finally leaned back tiredly in his chair and closed his
eyes, "The prison that's been troubling me for fifteen years, I've finally walked out."
Chad said, "Mr. Cedillo, I have a request. Don't tell Jade her identity now. I'm afraid she won't be able
to take it."
Chad was also afraid his mom would go mad again.
Andre opened his eyes, he looked at Chad, "The Cedillo family has to take Molly back."
"Give us some time to accept it, please." Chad looked at Andre, "She's our child too."
Andre, considering the Byrne family's protection of his sister over the years, agreed, "At the latest a
month, she must return to the Cedillo family before Christmas."
Satisfied, Chad got out of the car and left. Back at the Byrne family, Chad went to Jade's bedroom. He
saw her lying on the bed playing a game on her phone, saying "Leo, it's your leg that's handicapped
not your hand, why are you so slow. I'm about to die."
Leo said, "You guys got me, a sick man, playing games in the hospital, not giving a damn about me
and still complaining. After this round, you play on your own. I'm outta here."
Mia's voice came out, "No, Leo, hang around a bit longer. My husband will be back soon and I won't
need you anymore. I'll have him play with me."
Jade said, "Mia, count me in, too."
Chad knocked on the door, "Jade, we need to talk after you finish your game." C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
"Huh? Chad, aren't you at work today? I thought you went to work. Hold on a sec." Jade replied to
Chad while looking at her phone screen.
After the game ended, all three of them quit the game.
"Chad, what did you want to talk about?" Jade asked.
Chad looked at Jade's curious face, hesitating, unsure of how to speak up, "Never mind, what do you
want for dinner?"
"Just cook up some soup. I'll have a bit, and bring some to grandpa at the hospital tonight." Jade said.
"Alright." Chad answered.
Mia's husband also got home, "Honey, you're back."
"Yeah, didn't I tell you to go rest? Why are you starting to play games in the living room again?" Andre
said.
"Dad insisted that I play with him." Mia said.
Hansen glared angrily, "You nabbed my phone and started playing yourself."
Mia and Hansen started arguing, "Dad, you shouldn't be so ungrateful."
"You're the one who's ungrateful first." Hansen said.
And they started bickering again.
