Chapter 242
Chapter 242
Abroad.
When Mia woke up, her husband was nowhere to be seen. She'd been vaccinated, so she started
packing her bags to head back home.
Last night, Andre got a call, and Mia found out there was some trouble with Leo back home.
They missed the last flight of the night, so they had to leave at noon today. Andre got busy with his
stuff, so she started packing up their luggage in the hotel room.
At 10 o'clock, Andre came back to find their bags all packed up by his wife.
"Mia?" he called out.
"I'm in the bathroom," her voice echoed from the bathroom.
Andre pushed open the bathroom door to find his wife blow-drying her hair.
"Did you pack up everything?" he asked.
"Yup, did you get the tickets?" she fired back.
Andre pulled out their IDs and said, "Our ride's waiting downstairs, let's hit the road after you're done
with your hair."
Mia turned off the hairdryer, gave her hair a quick fix, and then followed her husband out of the hotel.
On their way home, Mia asked worriedly, "Honey, Leo didn't get hurt, did he? He's got a sharp mind but
a weak body. If someone laid a hand on him, he might not handle it."
Andre replied, "Nah, he was just detained."
Last night, Andre was planning to take his wife for a night out when he got a call from Leo.
"Are you Mr. Cedillo? A guy claiming to be your nephew stirred up a ruckus in my shop. I need to verify
if he's impersonating."
Andre asked, "Who are you?"
"Your nephew must have saved your number on his phone if you're getting this call. Mr. Cedillo, could
you come and pick him up from my shop?"
Andre walked over to the window.
Mia was looking up tourist spots on her phone, but she sensed something was off. She put down her
phone and looked at her husband's back.
"I can't remember everyone, but I need to know who the hell detained my nephew."
"Andre, our boss is actually a good friend of yours, Brian Marshal. You should know him, right?"
Andre scoffed, "I don't recall having a friend named Brian. Many people chat me up a bit and start
claiming they're my pals."
Brian, on the other end of the line, was fuming at Andre's words.
"Andre, since you and our boss aren't close, we don't have to be nice to Mr. Leo."
Andre gave a light laugh, "I'm looking forward to seeing how you guys deal with my nephew."
He hung up.
Brian slammed his fist on the table, "Andre disrespected me. I saved him once, he should be grateful
for a lifetime. But the Cedillo family, they're heartless. They only helped me for a decade or so and then
distanced themselves from the Marshal Group. Now, the way he talks is just unacceptable."
The man on the sofa didn't say a word, just puffing away on his cigarette. He put Leo's phone on the
table. The standout feature was the leaf tattoo on his wrist.
"Boss, the Obsidian Cafe got shut down by Chad. And before the shutdown, Leo had been there."
The man known as the boss asked again, "Where's Officer Rubin?"
"Chad is investigating evidence related to Officer Rubin and Obsidian Cafe, but no leads so far."
He took a drag on his cigarette and exhaled a cloud of smoke, "Chad, Kendrick's son, another young
man full of righteousness."
The mention of Chad and Mr. Kendrick reminded Brian of something, "Boss, Molly didn't actually die."
…
That night, Mia found out that Leo was investigating the Marshal family for her husband and got
detained by them. She frantically started packing, "Honey, you book the flight, I'll pack the bags."
Andre: "There're no flights tonight, we have to wait till tomorrow."
Mia wanted to send Bruce to fetch Leo, but Andre wouldn't let her rush into it. "This is business. If
Bruce gets involved, they'll exploit it. They're waiting for me. As long as I don't show up, Leo is safe."
Mia asked Andre, "What investigation did you send Leo on?"
Andre: "I had him investigate who the Marshal Group is partnering with. Fifteen years ago, Molly and I
were kidnapped. The kidnapper died of illness shortly after being caught. His family was poor, but after
his death, they received donations from all around and suddenly became wealthy.
After finding Molly, I looked into the kidnapper's situation and found out he had terminal cancer. I
recognized his face when the police caught him and didn't investigate further.
Fifteen years ago, the Cedillo family was all in to find me and Molly, but when I woke up, I was
surrounded by the Marshal family. And the dead body of 'Molly' was found by the Marshal family. Don't
you think that's too coincidental?"
Mia furrowed her brows, "So you suspect the Marshal family was involved in the kidnapping case back
then. And you think they're not capable enough, they might've been used. You're trying to find out
who's behind this through the Marshal Group's investment companies?"
"Mia, you finally get it." Andre sighed.
Mia: "Then you should've let me do the investigation. Leo is clueless. Sending him is just asking for
trouble."
Andre: "You're a girl."
"Darling, for something this dangerous, you really shouldn't let Leo go. He can't win a fight against me,
nor can he argue better than Molly. We're all better than Leo."
Andre: "I actually wanted those guys to give Leo a lesson, help him grow up."
Mia: "...you really are a good uncle."
The strict upbringing of his nephew at home was nothing compared to the idea of letting some people
beat Leo up to show him the harsh reality of the world, he thought it was a form of education too.
"If you dare to educate our son like this in the future, don't blame me for taking my son and divorcing
you." Mia had already started to worry about her son's future, even before she'd become a mother.
Andre, quite blunt, said, "Do you think our son will be as useless as Leo?"
Mia went silent, realizing that there was some truth in her husband's words.
However, her mind was still plagued with the situation of Leo. When their plane landed at Havenbrook
Airport, the couple stepped out. He planned to let Mia head home first, while he would pay the Marshal
family a visit.
Mia decided against going home, and hopped into the passenger seat instead. "I'm going to check out Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
the Marshal family too, see what kind of person Brian is to dare to keep my nephew with him."
Andre went with her decision, allowing her to ride shotgun.
They arrived at the Marshal family's living room.
Leo's phone was on the table, Mia picked it up and handed it to her husband. Andre motioned for her to
put the phone back, "Let them return the phone to him in person later."
Mia followed his instruction. She crossed one leg over the other, sitting on the couch with not a hint of
guest-like politeness. From afar, it looked like Andre had brought along a little assistant to the Marshal
family.
But this assistant of Andre, was nothing more than a woman who was good at throwing fists.
