Chapter 44
Elaine POV
Azaire sunk his teeth into my chest as his nails dug into my waist and brought me up to his pelvis.
“Uh… Azaire.” I was caught between pain and pleasure but I wanted more.
We’ve been tangled in each other’s bodies since I got here. The sun had woken up a long time ago. We really needed to sleep but we needed each other more.
“We need rest,” I said.
“What’s the rush? You’re not going anywhere.” He looked up from devouring my breasts.
I brushed his hair behind his ear. What would we do now? Have a mating ceremony maybe? I wasn’t engaged anymore so I could go after my dreams. Leaving the country was out of the question now.
“What happened to your hand?” Azaire asked.
He stroked the scar I got after making the blood promise.
“Oh, it’s nothing. It’ll be gone in a couple of days.”
“But what happened?”
“Dad made me make a blood promise. No big deal.”Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Azaire paused. He sat up which made me sit up too.
“A blood promise? To do what?”
“He didn’t really say he just wanted me to do something for him when the time came in exchange he let me go.”
Azaire raked a hand through his hair. “You don’t even know the terms of the deal, Elaine?”
I gripped the sheets to my chest. “No… I didn’t think it mattered. It was my chance to get free.”
“Fuck. It could be anything. Babe, blood promises are binding and have consequences if you refuse to uphold your end of the deal.”
“Azaire, don’t overreact. He’s my Dad what could he want?”
“Elaine, this is the man who sold you and killed my brother. Do you really think he wants you to buy him the world’s best dad mug in return?”
I lifted a shoulder. I didn’t know what to think anymore.
“I hope Rae can help us find out what the promise is.”
He lay back in bed and rolled to his side. I frowned and placed my chin on his arm.
“You don’t want to cuddle anymore?”
He groaned. He snaked his arm around my waist and pulled me over his body to position me in front of him. I snuggled into his warmth. We could worry about Dad’s plans or we could enjoy the legitimate freedom we had while it lasted. I just wanted to be with him and start something new.

“Are you sure it won’t hurt?” I asked.
Richie held out his hand and smirked.
Azaire sat on the armchair in the corner of Richie’s study at the Shaw Castle. I didn’t know why Richie had a study it’s not like he enjoyed reading or coffee by fireplaces. There was a shelf full of books behind his desk with some amazing titles I’d been eyeing but they were all dusty. It broke my heart at the neglect the books were getting.
I was at the castle because Azaire and I were officially together without anyone hunting us. (I hoped) Since we were living together in the Blood Moon pack I had to give my loyalty to Richie. After that, I would officially be part of the Blood Moon pack. I never thought I’d say that.
There was so much pain between our packs and so much death. I felt like we were sweeping everything under the rug by just choosing to be together. Despite the little pings of guilt, my desire to be with him and start a family was greater.
“Richie won’t hurt you. If he does, I’ll punch him in the face,” Azaire said.
Richie frowned. “I have to be the most disrespected Alpha ever.”
“Nah, you’re just like every little brother out there.”
Richie turned to me. “It’ll will hurt a little bit but it’ll be over in a second.”
“Fine.”
I put my hand in Richie’s. I couldn’t help but notice my mate’s intense stare Richie and I interacted.
Richie let out a deep breath.
“Do you give me and my pack your complete loyalty?” he asked.
I smiled. “I do.”
“Good.”
His claws dug into my palm. Pain shot up my arm. I battled not to scream or pull away but the pain moved up my arm and spread through my body. It was like an arrow travelling inside me. I felt it rush towards my brain and I had to fight. Richie held me tight but he didn’t understand that if the arrow reached my brain I would die.
“Stop!” I screamed.
Richie broke contact and I fell to the ground.
“Fuck,” Richie spat.
“What the hell happened?” Azaire got up and rushed over to me.
He picked me up and cradled my face. The pain quickly subsided. I expected my skin to start opening up but it didn’t surprisingly.
“It didn’t work,” Richie said. “The link between her old pack didn’t break.”
“How’s that possible?” Azaire asked.
“I don’t know I’ve done this countless times and it never felt like this.”
I cradled my head and leaned into Azaire. “It felt like something was trying to kill me.”
“Why do I have a bad feeling this has something to do with the blood promise you made?”
“You made a blood promise? Why the hell did you do that?” Richie raised a brow.
Am I the only one who didn’t know they were bad?
“It’s not that big of a deal anyway. Just don’t betray the pack and we’re good,” Richie said.
He walked out of the study, leaving Azaire and me alone. Azaire picked me up and carried me to the armchair. He knelt in front of me with concern in his eyes.
“I’m fine. It doesn’t hurt anymore.”
“I’m still concerned, babe. I’ll call Rae.”
“No, don’t bother her. I know another witch.”
He raised his brow. “Since when?”
“Oh, not long. I barely know her.”
“And you think you can trust her?”
I sucked my bottom lip. “She’s my Mom isn’t she?”
