The Beta’s Regret

Chapter 276

(Eden's

Pov)

Arthur stepped back for a moment in surprise. The doubt in his mind was visible in the way he looked at me. "We have a deal?" He asked

I nodded. "It's fine. As long as you promise to help me stop Pison, I will become yours.

Arthur chuckled and cocked his head to the side. "I thought I would have to try harder to convince you.

I shrugged.

"I have nothing to lose. I understand how much you care about me, and I wouldn't want to lose that, after all, Eros is... no more."

Arthur nodded, finally convinced. I was not surprised that he didn't accept my words at once, because I knew Arthur had always been the cautious one. He was calculating and never made a move that wouldn't benefit him, which is why I knew I had to put in my best to convince him. "Please finish your food." Arthur gestured back to my seat.

I nodded and sat back down. I just picked at the food in my mind working on a new plan.

Pison ruined my plans, and I knew that getting him back would be impossible.

"Tell me what you are thinking about." Arthur asked after the silence between us stretched for too long.

"Pison." I said. "What happens after we get rid of him? Do you plan to become king yourself?" I asked.

Arthur frowned and shook his head "I don't care much about power, I never did."

I raised a brow in surprise. That was the last thing I expected him to say. I always assumed Arthur betrayed everyone for his greed.

"If you don't care about power, then what do you care about?" I asked.

He fixed his gaze on me, his eyes trailed down my length and I became slightly uncomfortable beneath his scrutiny. "True love."

I swallowed and nodded.

There was a sad look in his eyes that I didn't miss. It was obvious that Arthur wanted to be loved, to find a mate that would be his and suddenly, I felt a pinch of guilt for what I was doing to him.

I just took advantage of his feelings for me to achieve my goal. Still, I had no other choice. It was either this or get killed by Pison in the long run.

There was no way I would put an energy to the deal now, nor could I tell him exactly what I intended to do.

Besides there was a reason why I was more desperate than ever

There is only one day left before Pison would finally give Lily to the hell god. An evil sacrifice all for his greed.

If only I knew that this was his plan from onset, I wouldn't have brought Lily to him. I would have kept her as far away from him as possible. Something struck me, and I turned to Arthur in curiosity.

"How did Lyra get pregnant for Pison?" I asked.

I never for once imagined that Lyra would cheat on her mate. Nothing prepared me for the shock I felt when I first read Pison's note.

Arthur coughed, not expecting the question.

""Lyra?" He asked.

I nodded.

Arthur shrugged. "While she was in hiding, she grew closer to Pison who was in charge of the cult they created. I assume Lyra saw a shot at becoming queen. She did everything to stay in Pison's favor including sleeping with him." It was just the way I assumed.

But I thought that Pison would just be happy to see his daughter, but I had no idea that she was his ticket to his power upgrade and that was why he wanted the child.

I brought Lily here in the first place. It was my duty to save her from her monstrous father before she became the weapon of mass destruction.

"Thank you." I said to Arthur who nodded with a smile.

The rest of the breakfast passed silently as we both kept to our own thoughts.

The moment I was done eating, I stood up and Arthur looked at me.

"I'm done. If that is all, I would like to go back to the dungeon." I said.

Arthur raised a brow. "You make me think that you are desperate to go back to that place." He said.noveldrama

I shook my head. "I don't belong to your chambers."

Arthur pursed his lips. "You will, when we finally become one. You will have to leave the dungeon."

I nodded. I would definitely leave the dungeon, but not alone.

Arthur stood up and walked to me. My eyes widened as he reached for me, and I cowered a little, trying to avoid his touch.

I didn't expect it when he ruffled my hair and bent down and ripped the helm of my dress.

"This should do." He said observing me as he stepped back.

I immediately knew what Arthur had in mind. He wanted it to look like we had a thing when we didn't.

I went along with his act as I

suddenly played along, feigning exhaustion while he called in his

men and two warriors entered the room.

"Take her back." Arthur commanded.

"Yes my lord." They chorused as they gently led me outside, compared to the first time when I was roughly pulled in.

As we walked along the hallway, I reduced my speed, and dragged my feet across the floor.

Finally we got to the dungeon, and the guards pushed me in.

I fell to my knees, and folded myself as I backed to a corner.

Different thoughts ran through my mind as I thought about how I would rescue the women and girls from the dungeon and defeat King Pison. It won't be easy.

For hours, sat alone thinking of a good plan. The women around gave me curious looks. At one pointe Crystal checked in on me to make sure I was fine.

Finally, the maids came in with food. I watched the women and girls rush at the food and I felt sympathy.

"We should fight!" I suddenly yelled loudly. when the maids left with the empty plates. We were alone. Everyone looked at me.

Crystal spoke out first. "What do you mean?"

I summoned the courage and stood before them.

"We need to find a way out of here. We should fight for our freedom, it's not over yet. We can't die here."

The response I got wasn't one I hoped for.

"There is no use fighting!" One of the women snapped. "You will only make matters worse with your stubbornness."

I shook my head. "You just need to "

"Enough!" The woman snapped again, shocking me into silence.

The women turned away and ushered the girls to sleep while Crystal gave me an expression that said I should give up.

I felt a desire to make them see that

there was a chance, but I could also see that their hopes were dashed

and there was hardly anything would say that they would believe.

I sighed and went back to sit, counting down to the day of the blood moon...

It is just one day away.
