Chapter 302
Chapter 302:
The hallway lamp flickered on and off again and again.
Joseph hurried home, but kept entering the wrong password. The door kept warning them that the password was incorrect.
Finally, after many attempts, they managed to get through the door.
It was dark inside. The house was empty. Noah and Stella had been at the Beckham Mansion for a few days and Benjamin was staying at the university for final exams.
The pale moonlight cast soft shadows on the wall.
In the end Hayden didn’t say which Lion he liked. That’s why Joseph didn’t bother to ask her knowing she didn’t like that ‘cute boy’, in case she kept laughing at him.
The house began to warm up. Hayden was feeling tired after sex, lying on the couch next to Joseph.
“Is Anna the one who explained all that stuff to you about ‘cute boys’ and ‘rough boys’?”.
Hayden nodded nonchalantly.
“Young boys are categorized into tender and rough, but what do you call an older man?” Joseph asked.
Hayden thought for a second and stared at him, “Are you sure you want to know?”.
He thought for a while and nodded, even though he knew it couldn’t be a nice word.
Hayden went blank for a while and started to get less sleepy. He stared at Joseph, “Anna said that tender, rough boys, are always young men. But older men who have bad tempers, never flatter women and are usually unkind, so there’s only one label for them.”
Joseph disagreed with a frown, “A man who doesn’t like to pay compliments is unkind?”
“Yeah, you never give me compliments.”
Hayden looked at him for a while. She didn’t think he was the kind of man who was used to complimenting people, so she made an excuse for him, “But really, a glib talker isn’t always popular.”
But Joseph was interested in what she was saying.
“What label did Anna mention?”
Hayden found he was intensely curious about it, so he replied, “Shameless old man.”
Her voice echoed through the house for a moment.
Joseph huffed, “I think you should find someone else to replace Anna.”
Hayden smiled in satisfaction, “But you told me a few days ago that I should raise her salary. You’re the treasurer and you approved it.”
“…”.
Joseph couldn’t argue with that. Hayden thought Anna deserved a higher salary.
Hayden felt it necessary to learn some internet trends.
Hayden went to the Beckham Mansion for a weekend with his two children. Joseph wanted to take Stella and Noah back home. But Hayden didn’t consent since she was busy at work and Harrison might get lonely if the kids left.
Mark and two other servants were waiting for them at the door.
“Good morning, Mr. Beckham, Miss Downey.”
“Where’s Harrison?” Joseph got out of the car, taking Hayden’s hand.
“Little Noah wanted to make a snowman, so Old Mr. Beckham bought a snow cannon and set it up on the hill out back. It got really cold last night, so now Old Mr. Beckham is playing with Stella and Noah.”
“Why did he want to make a dummy?” Joseph asked with a frown.
Hayden pondered for a while, “Maybe it’s Stella’s idea. She insisted I take her to play in the snow in the winter, we were going skiing this time of year. According to the weather forecast, it’s going to snow a lot in the next few days.”
In N City it always started snowing in early December.
They weren’t home, so Hayden and Joseph went to the back hill.
The snow gun had stopped working. The hill was very attractive because the man-made snow stretched over a vast meadow, creating a silvery white world.
There were two children running through the snow. They were dressed in yellow and red like colored balls. Stella and Noah kept throwing snowballs at the one hiding behind the tree. Hayden recognized it was Eleanor when she let out a scream.
Hayden also spotted a man in black sitting on the ground, it was Harrison. Despite his advanced age, he was still healthy and vigorous. Although he was far away from the children, there were piles of snowballs beside him.
The novelty of the situation intrigued her. She grabbed Joseph by the arm and motioned for him to see.
Joseph looked at Harrison and was surprised that there were snowballs near him.
In Joseph’s mind, Harrison was quite strict, and would not be able to play with his grandchildren.
“Believe it or not, I could get Harrison to join us and play.”
“No way.” Joseph was in disbelief, “He doesn’t like these games.”
“You want to bet, what do I win if I make it?”.
“I’ll do the dishes for a month.”
“Okay, deal.” She said and walked a few steps toward Harrison, but he suddenly turned back, “No, you always do the dishes.”
Smiling, Joseph didn’t answer. He calmly looked her in the eyes with his arms crossed, waiting for her refusal.
Hayden didn’t care what was at stake. She lifted her chin at him and ran over to Harrison.
“Hello.”
His sudden appearance startled Harrison. He stood up in embarrassment, trying to hide the snowballs behind him, “Hi, Hayden.”
“Wait! Don’t step on the snowballs. They’re perfect for throwing at each other.” She herself bent down and picked up a snowball for a closer look.
Chatting with Harrison, she threw a snowball at Stella.
“Ouch, who did that?” Stella’s lovely voice came from the snowfield. Struck by the snowball, she stumbled and sat down on the ground. She turned around discovering only Harrison was there. “Harrison, you said you wouldn’t join us!”.
Harrison was puzzled, “No, I didn’t go.”
Hayden was hiding behind Harrison. She had a slim figure, so Harrison, who was wearing a black coat, easily covered her.
When Stella was distracted, Hayden threw another snowball at her, which this time hit her in the head.
“Noah, Harrison is throwing snowballs at me!”. Stella was outraged. She whispered something to Noah and they started throwing snowballs at Harrison.
Seeing that, Eleanor stopped hiding and joined the snowball fight.
“Harrison, let me help you.”
Harrison couldn’t dodge the snowballs, so he was soon covered in snow. Hayden handed him a snowball and said, “Harrison, hit them!”.
Piercing the sky, the snowball looked as big as a human’s fist. After Harrison threw a snowball, the fight became more intense.
All around the place there was shouting that sounded quite joyful.
