Chapter 303
Chapter 303:
As the snowball fight became more intense, Joseph was forced to join them. Snowballs were scattered everywhere and they started throwing the snowballs at each other indiscriminately.
They didn’t stop the fight until Mark asked them several times to go home for lunch. They all reddened with excitement and followed Harrison back home.
“Mark told me that Stella likes to ski, right?”. As they were eating lunch, Harrison mentioned, “Maybe we’ll invest in a ski resort outside of town.”
Hearing that, Hayden almost choked on his soup.
Harrison wanted to invest in a ski resort just because Stella liked to ski. What if Stella wanted to see the stars? Would she invest in a space station? He thought maybe she wasn’t rich enough to plan all that.
But Joseph wasn’t surprised at all. He even nodded, “Okay, it’s up to you.”
Every year it snowed in City N. But the snow wasn’t deep because the temperature wasn’t frigid enough. No one had thought of investing in a ski resort, maybe it would be a profitable project.
Talking about the investment, Harrison also mentioned, “It’s not up to me, you’ll be the one to take care of the investment. I’m too old to start a new project.”
Hayden understood what Harrison wanted.
Harrison was trying to ask Joseph to work at ST Group when talking about the investment.
“I have other things to do.” Joseph didn’t raise his head. Luello handed Hayden a piece of chicken, replying nonchalantly, “I’ll consider it when I finish my work.”
“What else do you have to do?” Harrison began to lose his temper, “You’d rather work as treasurer at a medium-sized company than CEO at ST Group?”
Hayden was embarrassed to hear that.
After all, she was running the Downey Group and she was embarrassed that they looked down on her company.
Joseph sensed that she was embarrassed. He thought for a while and frowned, “It’s okay for me to be treasurer. I think it’s better than being suspended as CEO.”
Harrison didn’t know how to respond to that.
Harrison had suspected that Joseph was ungrateful, which triggered their argument. Joseph resigned before he was suspended. But, in essence, it was Harrison who made him do it.
In addition, Franklin became the CEO of ST Group. Joseph always disliked Franklin, so he was even more upset to be replaced by him.
Seeing that Harrison was about to get angry, Hayden was quick to mediate the dispute: “Joseph also wants to return to work at ST Group, but he is not ready at the moment. Would you do me a favor and allow him to finish his work at Downey Group before returning to ST Group? I am sure he will finish his work at Downey Group by the end of this year.”
He helped Harrison find an excuse to make a concession.
Harrison pretended to cough, “He should see his work through to the end. We can discuss it a few months later.”
Hayden knew Harrison cared about the ST Group. Franklin turned out to be a bad person and was now in charge of the company. If Joseph didn’t replace Franklin as soon as possible, Harrison feared unforeseeable consequences.
Although Joseph did not rush back to ST Group, Harrison could not wait.
Perhaps, Joseph had been born to argue with Harrison.
In an effort to lighten the mood, Hayden scrambled to come up with a new topic. “By the way, Joseph is not only busy at work lately, he’s also preparing for your birthday party next week.”
“Don’t let it be extravagant.” Harrison waved his hand, “I don’t like extravagant parties.”
“You’re turning eighty, so I’m sure we’re throwing you a party in style. Mark tells me he’s been getting a lot of calls asking about the party and we’ve made a reservation at the restaurant. All you have to do is show up, it’s no trouble at all.”
After much coaxing, Harrison finally nodded.
Although Harrison said he didn’t want a party, Hayden knew he was actually thrilled. He learned from his aunt that grown-ups were always eager to be surrounded by their relatives and expected a loud and lively scene.
Harrison thought about it for a second and asked, “Have you confirmed the guest list?”
Hayden looked at Joseph.
He didn’t know all of the Beckham Family’s relatives and friends, so he didn’t help put together the guest list. It was up to Joseph to decide who to invite.noveldrama
“Not yet.” Joseph raised his head, “I’m about to ask Mark to put together the guest list and send out the invitations.”
There were so many relatives and friends of the Beckham Family that he hardly knew any of them.
Harrison nodded and asked Hayden, “Hayden, why don’t you invite Mr. and Mrs. Barnett.”
Hayden was surprised and didn’t answer.
“It’s time to plan your wedding. Stella said you didn’t get along with your relatives, but she has already improved your relationship.” Harrison said bluntly, which made Hayden speechless.
He looked Joseph in the eyes and signaled for him to answer.
He began to wonder why Harrison was mentioning their wedding. “Harrison, there’s no rush, it’s not that easy to talk about the wedding with them.”
Harrison’s face took on a fixed expression. He looked at Hayden and said, “Mr. and Mrs. Barnett don’t like the businessman, do they?”
Mr. Barnett was a politician and had retired early, but lately he had been drafted into P-town, it looked like he might be promoted to a higher position. Since Hayden’s mother had been abandoned by Bentley, Lord Barnett might not believe in businessmen like the Beckham Family.
In fact, it was not in vain to have such concern. Hayden had asked his uncle and understood that he did not like Joseph.
“I don’t know, but I don’t think so. But now it’s unlikely to marry someone according to the family background.” Hayden smiled and tried to change the subject, “Acceptance will come in the future.”
Harrison frowned with concern.
It seemed that it wasn’t always so pleasant that Hayden had a distinguished background, Harrison thought. He realized that his wedding was a long time away, but he had long been looking forward to Joseph’s wedding.
Thinking about it, Harrison couldn’t resist sighing, “When I was Joseph’s age, both of my children had finished grade school.”
“Two sons?” Hayden was surprised.
Harrison stared blankly for a while and felt bitter at the thought, “Eat.”
Hayden felt guilty for bringing up that subject and regretted his rashness.
At the Maple Sugar Inn, the chief had told her that she was Harrison’s adopted daughter. The two sons Harrison mentioned were Joseph’s parents.
Hayden reminded Harrison of a sore subject.
