Chapter 246
Chapter 246
Ronan's gaze bore into Cordelia after he finished speaking.
"Of course I'm worried. They are my children." she finally said after a pause.
"Aren't you supposed to be scared of me? Why are you even asking me for help if you are?" Ronan
shot back at Cordelia.
"Well, if I'm carrying Jamie's children, why did you bring me here to live with you?" Cordelia retorted.
"Maybe I'm a bit twisted. I don't like the idea of someone who once belonged to me becoming someone
else's," he replied nonchalantly. "Besides, I've always found him... irritating."
He seemed not only unbothered by his own self-proclaimed twistedness, but also proud, as if saying,
"I'm rich, and I can do whatever I want. What are you going to do about it?"
"If you don't provide me with a driver and a car, and something happens to me under your care, the
entire town of Millstone will condemn you," Cordelia said, appearing quite righteous.
Ronan simply laughed off her comment. "Do you think I'm scared?"
"I know you're scared of nothing."
Probably not wanting to argue with Cordelia any further, Ronan said, "I'll get you a BMW. Your driver
will report in the afternoon. Janice will accompany you when you go out. Now, I have to go to work." This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
"Alright. Thank you," Cordelia politely responded.
Ronan, who was about to leave, suddenly turned around and gently lifted Cordelia's chin. His eyes
were icy. "Don't mention it." His tone was thick with sarcasm.
After he left, the tension in the room eased up.
Cordelia breathed a sigh of relief and began to check her phone.
Jamie had created a group chat titled "First Enterprises Project Group" which consisted of Jamie,
Cordelia, and ten other members. These ten individuals were all postgraduates and certified CPAs,
making Cordelia, a mere undergraduate, feel a bit embarrassed assigning them tasks.
As a startup, First Enterprises was full of energy. Every day, members shared updates on new projects,
their progress, and completed tasks in the group chat.
[Oh, I've been with the company for over a month now and have already completed three projects
independently. How many has Cordelia completed? Also, I haven't met her yet,] Marian, one of the
group members, said.
Cordelia had not been to the office since the incident with Manda and had not yet met Marian. Marian
soon retracted her comment, but Cordelia had seen it and felt a bit uneasy.
In a private message, Jamie sent Cordelia a list of potential projects.
[Cordelia, I've compiled this list. If you have time, try to secure one or two of these projects and
complete them independently. Is that okay?] Jamie asked.
[Sure,] Cordelia replied.
[Remember to take care of yourself and only take on what you can handle.]
[Okay.]
Cordelia knew why Jamie was assigning her this task. Some of the postgraduate employees were
skeptical of her leadership abilities as an undergraduate. She had just passed her CPA exams that
year, which meant that in most companies, she would be an intern. Moreover, Cordelia hadn't invested
any capital in the firm. Her capabilities were not enough to command respect. Cordelia vowed to
secure several high-profile projects to boost her credibility.
She spent the afternoon in her room making phone calls to two companies, GreenPeace Enterprises
and PrimeBuild Contractors.
After reviewing their profiles, Cordelia concluded that GreenPeace Enterprises was relatively small and
likely easier to work with. As for PrimeBuild Contractors, the company's leadership structure was not
very clear, and it was a medium-sized enterprise, which might have posed some challenges.
At three in the afternoon, the driver that Ronan arranged for Cordelia arrived. Her name was Tristi. It
was rare to see a woman driver for executives, and Cordelia was surprised at Ronan's arrangement.
"Mrs. Evans, I'll be your driver from now on. Here are my phone number and Messenger account. If
you need anything, just let me know. Your car is a sapphire blue BMW 7 series. I've taken a picture for
you to see," Tristi said.
Indeed, Tristi was a woman driver and very meticulous. Cordelia had no issues communicating with
her.
"Tomorrow, I need to go to GreenPeace Enterprises and PrimeBuild Contractors. I'll send you the
locations tonight," Cordelia said.
After checking in, Tristi left.
Cordelia continued reviewing her past projects until six when she heard the front door open and the
sound of Ronan and Janice talking.
"Did she take her medication?" Ronan asked Janice.
"Yes, she did. Shall we have dinner?"
As Cordelia was intently listening to their conversation, her room door was opened. Ronan, holding the
doorknob of Cordelia's room, said, "Come out for dinner."
