The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 247

Chapter 247

Cordelia blinked, then stepped out.

Janice had prepared a feast today - a hearty pot roast, beef meatballs and a few deliciously sautéed

greens.

“Oh, this is amazing. I haven't had such a feast in a long time,” Cordelia said delightedly to Janice.

“Really? They don't feed you well at their house?” Ronan asked in a mocking tone.

Cordelia was left speechless by his retort, and simply continued eating. After a while, Cordelia spoke

up, “I’m planning to visit GreenPeace Enterprises and PrimeBuild Contractors tomorrow. I’ve informed

Tristi. Just thought I should let you know.” After all, the car and the driver were his, so it was only right

that she should keep him informed of her plans.

“Hmm,” Ronan replied nonchalantly. “Let Janice accompany you.”

“Alright,” Cordelia agreed.

After dinner, Cordelia retired to her room to write in her diary and then went to bed.

Just as she settled in, she received a message from Brenda. [Cordelia, did you know that Manda got

arrested for corporate espionage?]

[What? I thought she was an administrator?] Cordelia sat up in shock.

[Exactly, I’m just as baffled. I don’t know how she got herself involved in corporate espionage. She

might have crossed the wrong person.] Brenda replied.

Cordelia laid back down, a vague thought crossing her mind. Could it be Ronan? But Manda hadn’t

crossed paths with Ronan lately!

Whenever something shocking and inexplicable happened, Cordelia’s mind would always turn to

Ronan. After all, he was a force to be reckoned with, and crossing him could be deadly.

By the time she woke up, it was already nine in the morning and Ronan had already left.

Janice had left breakfast for Cordelia. Perhaps it was Shelley's sudden absence, but Cordelia found

herself feeling quite fond of middle-aged women. Cordelia and Janice’s relationship had grown

remarkably close.

After breakfast, Tristi sent Cordelia a message saying that she was waiting downstairs.

Janice helped Cordelia to the car.

Getting out of the house was good for a change of scenery and to clear the mind, rather than staying

cooped up at home all the time. Tristi, being a thoughtful driver, chose a very scenic route for Cordelia.

For instance, to get to GreenPeace Enterprises, she took Cordelia along the canal route, where the

winter sun sparkled on the surface of the water. Cordelia felt her spirits lift.

“Feeling better?” Janice asked, gauging Cordelia’s expression.

“Yes.” Cordelia said with a smile, her face reminiscent of a child who had just received a candy.

Because she was in a good mood, Cordelia's meeting with GreenPeace Enterprises went well. Plus,

since GreenPeace Enterprises was a small company, the leaders immediately agreed to give Cordelia

the project. Cordelia was overjoyed.

After grabbing a quick lunch with Janice, Cordelia headed to PrimeBuild Contractors. Whenever she

went to discuss a project, she would usually ask Janice to wait for her in the lobby while she went up.

The CFO of PrimeBuild Contractors, a man in his forties named Hunter, frowned when he saw

Cordelia, a young woman with a visible baby bump. “You’re the partner at First Enterprises, Ms.

Haselwood? You’re very young. How many years of experience do you have?” Hunter’s disdain was

evident.

Cordelia understood that he was skeptical of her youth and lack of experience. “Two years,” Cordelia

replied. Including her internship, she had only been working for two years.

“Two years?” Hunter looked even more disdainful. “You became a partner in two years? PrimeBuild

realize that financial matters need to be handled with utmost caution?”

“I realize that. In my previous projects…” Cordelia began, intending to talk about her flawless record in

past projects.

But Hunter didn’t give her the chance to speak. “What’s your educational background?” Hunter

interrupted.

Cordelia swallowed, “Bachelor’s degree.”

“Bachelor’s degree? From your looks, you’re about to give birth, right? You spent your study years

dating, and you're ready to have a babies after graduation. How can I trust you? Ms. Haselwood, you

should go back.” Saying this, Hunter walked away.

Cordelia sat there for a long time, calming her emotions. Being a partner not only meant doing her own

work, but also finding projects. Finding projects was exhausting, but if she couldn't handle these small

setbacks, her colleagues would think she was incapable. Everyone was criticizing her education and

saying she got her position due to her relationship with Jamie.

Working at Lumos Enterprises now seemed to be truly her most comfortable time. But one couldn't stay

in their comfort zone forever.
