The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 279

Chapter 279

In the afternoon, after completing her yoga class, Cordelia sent a message to Tristi, letting her know

she was on her way home.

As she was passing through the lobby, Cordelia decided to use the restroom. The first floor was

generally less occupied, and its restroom was seldom used, thus smaller than those on other floors.

Just as Cordelia was about to leave the restroom, she heard a couple of voices outside.

"Did you hear? Cordelia is back in the office."

"Yeah, I heard. She's showing off her baby bump."

"Do you think everyone knows about her mother's death? It wasn’t an accident. She's practically living

with Mr. Evans, having his kids, even two at once. How can she ignore her own family like this?"

"You'd do the same if you had a shot at a life like this, wouldn't you? Who wouldn't want to secure their

position with a few kids?"

"But who are the kids really from? Isn't there a rumor that they're Jamie's?"

"That's nonsense. If they were Jamie's kids, would Mr. Evans parade her around the office? Besides,

HR has already settled her in. She's on paid maternity leave."

"People can really get on your nerves."

The voices faded, and Cordelia could no longer hear them.

Normally, Cordelia wouldn't pay any attention to such gossip. But the mention of her mother's death hit

her hard, reopening old wounds and making her heart bleed.

She started to question herself. Was she being too heartless in ignoring her mother's death and letting

her heart wander free?

As Cordelia left the restroom, Tristi was just about to call her. Seeing Cordelia waving at her from

across the lobby, Tristi hung up the call.

On the way home, Cordelia couldn't help but think about her mother. Since her mother's death, she had

grown up and matured more than ever. She was no longer the child she used to be.

Once they got back home, Cordelia excused herself, saying she was tired. She retreated to her room

and locked the door. When Ronan arrived home, she heard him but didn't acknowledge his presence.

He knocked on her door, but she told him she was tired and needed to rest, asking him to sleep in his

own room for the next few days.

Ronan, for once, was calm and didn't force her door open.

The next day, Ronan left and Cordelia still hadn't gotten up.

This went on for several days. Ronan noticed the change in Cordelia, knowing that she was struggling

with internal conflicts. He let her have her space.

Three days passed, and Ava hadn't shown up.

She wanted Cordelia, but what she really wanted were her own grandchildren. Ronan called Thomas,

warning him to keep his wife in check and not to jump to conclusions.

Thomas, who was afraid of Ronan, naturally complied. Moreover, he pushed all the blame onto Adrian,

claiming that everything his wife had done was instigated by Adrian. Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org

"Adrian?" Ronan had suspected someone was stirring the pot, otherwise, Ava wouldn't have changed

her mind so abruptly.

"Yes, Mr. Evans. All of this has nothing to do with my wife. She was deceived by Adrian's lies." Thomas

pushed all the blame onto Adrian.

Thomas was indeed loyal to his wife.

Ronan then called Adrian. To be honest, Adrian was a bit hesitant to answer Ronan's call at first. But

he was familiar with Ronan's tactics, and in the end, he picked up.

"Do you know where Kendra is?" This was the first thing Ronan asked Adrian.

"I don't know! Ronan, don't try to sweet-talk me. I won't fall for it!" Adrian retorted.

"Don't believe me? How about I send you some photos?" Ronan's tone was both confident and

intimidating.

Ronan was certainly more dangerous than Jamie. Soon afterwards, he sent Adrian a few photos. In

them, Kendra was hanging around the neck of a man who looked like he was in his forties and seemed

quite wealthy.

"Her baby isn’t yours. I settled it for you. Shouldn't you be grateful?" Ronan said.

"Ronan, you're so sure about whose child it is when it comes to others. Why can't you be certain about

Cordelia's children?" Adrian's tone was sarcastic, but mostly he was angry. If Kendra's child really

wasn't his, he was furious that he had been deceived by Kendra for so long. Thankfully, he hadn't given

Kendra the money Ronan had given him, otherwise, he would be drowning in debt now.

"Why would I need to think about it? The kids are mine." Ronan responded nonchalantly, as if Adrian's

question was ridiculous.

"What do you want?" Adrian asked.

"Do my bidding!" Ronan's response was short and to the point.

"What do you want me to do?" Adrian asked.

"Who sent Ava to us?" Ronan questioned.

"Samantha. Are you satisfied now? I took Samantha to Millstone, and it was like inviting a wolf into the

sheep's pen." Adrian said.

Ronan hung up, pondering over the situation. If Samantha was involved, then Deanna probably was

too.

When Shelley had the accident, he didn't think Olen would push her off a building. Olen had mistaken

Shelley for someone else, but how did he know exactly where Shelley would be at Sunridge Estates?

And that day, Olen had suffered a severe mental shock.

Ronan was willing to bet that someone had provoked Olen, and that person was likely Kendra. Kendra

probably realized her mistake and fled to another city, where Ronan's people were still keeping an eye

on her. As for Kendra's child, it was indeed Ronan who had arranged for it to be taken care of.

Ronan didn't know if the child was Adrian's and he didn't care. But a woman like her didn't deserve to

have a child!
