Chapter 280
Chapter 280
Though Ronan had a complete knowledge of Kendra's movements, he couldn't bring her before
Cordelia for confrontation. Regardless of whether Shelley was killed by Olen or Ronan, it was a
member of the Evans family who committed the murder. He didn’t want Cordelia to resent him, much
less Olen. Therefore, Ronan insisted it was an accident.
On her way home, Cordelia, having nothing better to do, browsed through Facebook. She found a post
from several days ago by Deanna. It was a picture of a table filled with delicate dishes, and a caption
that read: ‘Dining with my dream guy.’
Deanna had even tagged the location, a fine dining restaurant, with the date coinciding with the day
Cordelia had lunch with Brooklyn. During those days, Ronan had been staying at Pearl Palms, with
Cordelia unaware of his whereabouts. But she was sure as the sun rose in the east, Deanna's dream
guy was Ronan.
Cordelia's eyes flickered with confusion. Had he heard what she had said, especially about her plan to
go abroad in January? Did he make her come to the office today just to keep her from leaving?
Cordelia slightly furrowed her brows. Ronan, how could he be so unsettling, always one step ahead?
……
A few days later, Cordelia had a prenatal appointment. As the pregnancy progressed, the appointments Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
became more frequent, with blood sugar tests almost every week.
She didn't tell Ronan about this appointment. In fact, she never did. She told Janice in the morning,
then texted Tristi via Messenger.
However, Tristi informed Ronan, "Mr. Evans, Mrs. Evans asked me to accompany her to the prenatal
check-up today. I'm on my way to Garden Estates."
Ronan responded with a voice message, "Just drop her off and come back."
"Understood." Tristi said.
After arriving at the hospital, Tristi said she would wait downstairs and let Cordelia and Janice go
upstairs.
Victoria was on duty that day. Cordelia usually timed her appointments to coincide with Victoria's shifts.
Victoria glanced at Cordelia's health indicators, "Your blood sugar control is good. How about his
control?"
"What?" Cordelia was confused.
"I mean your husband, Mr. Evans. Is he still forcing himself on you?" Victoria, as a doctor, didn't feel
awkward asking this question.
"Oh, he has been very restrained lately." Even Cordelia was puzzled by his sudden tranquility, as if he
was in complete peace of mind.
Someone pushed the door open. Cordelia instinctively thought it was Janice, who had gone downstairs
to pay for the ultrasound. They were having an ultrasound today to check on the babies. However,
when she turned around, she saw Ronan. She didn’t know if he had heard what Victoria said.
"Why are you here?" Cordelia asked calmly.
"Why wouldn't I be here for your prenatal check-up?" Ronan questioned.
"I'm going for the ultrasound now. Gentlemen are not allowed, so you can wait here." With that,
Cordelia left.
The ultrasound results came out quickly. About ten minutes later, Cordelia returned to Victoria's office
with the report. Just then, someone knocked on the door looking for Victoria to get a medical record.
Victoria asked Cordelia to wait for a bit and she would be right back.
In Victoria's office, only Cordelia and Ronan were left. Just going for the ultrasound test had caused
delicate beads of sweat to form on Cordelia's forehead.
Ronan saw this and felt a pang of sympathy. "Aren't you going to wipe your sweat?" He asked. Then he
took a tissue and began to wipe Cordelia's sweat.
Cordelia took the opportunity to grab Ronan's wrist, "Did you find out about my plan to go abroad?"
Cordelia asked abruptly. Her small hand couldn't grip his wrist. If he hadn't been cooperative, how
could she have had the opportunity to challenge him? She had challenged him many times before.
Ronan wasn't surprised by Cordelia's reaction. He knew that once Deanna posted on Facebook,
Cordelia would find out about it. "Is it a secret? Is Jamie the only one allowed to know?" He asked her,
not stopping his action of wiping her sweat.
"I must go! Don't try to stop me." Cordelia said righteously.
Under the sunlight, her forehead was covered in sweat. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, like the first
rays of the morning sun.
"Give birth to the child and I'll take care of them. I won't stop you from doing anything else." Ronan
knew that if he tried to stop her, she might do something drastic.
"Why would you take care of them?" Cordelia asked, her eyes filled with confusion. She was
wondering, had he found any clues when Ava proposed on behalf of Jamie? His eyes were sharp as a
hawk, always noticing things that others couldn't.
"You won't find anyone more suitable than me who can provide for you. If the child is with me, you'll
come back!" Ronan said.
So, he wanted to take care of the child not because he knew the child was his, but to make Cordelia
come back. A ripple of emotion stirred in Cordelia's heart again.
